Cape Cleare Fishery
'Ocean Brights'
We fish offshore catching King and Coho (Silver) Salmon one at a time, by hook and line.
We catch salmon while they are feeding and swimming vigorously. Prized for their great strength and beauty, fishermen call these salmon "Ocean Brights".
Most Alaska fishermen catch salmon in nets, where sheer volume makes it impossible to give individual attention to harvesting each fish.
We catch salmon one at a time by hook and line. We handle each fish carefully to avoid bruising and de-scaling and we follow an exacting process of bleeding and cleaning.
Frozen-At-Sea
We freeze our salmon right on the boat, locking in their firm texture, ocean-fresh flavor and nutrients.
After freezing, we immerse each salmon in icy ocean water to form a protective glaze around it. Our blast freezer is maintained at a chilly minus 40 degrees Fahrenheit.

Better Than 'Fresh'
Through our method of flash-freezing at sea, we effectively stop the fish's deterioration by immediately controlling two critical factors: time and temperature.
This keeps the salmon as fresh as when caught, unlike fresh salmon that can lose quality during transport. Frozen-at-sea means you get the best taste and nutrition.
